Nagrota Encounter, Jammu & Kashmir, 19th November 2020

Press Release

Subject: Nagrota Encounter, Jammu & Kashmir, 19th November 2020

A major terrorist attack in Jammu District was foiled by the Indian security forces on 19th November 2020 in which four Pakistani terrorists were killed in an encounter near Ban Toll Plaza in the Nagrota area of Jammu District. These terrorists had crossed the international border to reach a pre-designated point inside the Indian territory in Jammu and Kashmir and a lot of ammunition like AK Rifles, Grenades, Detonators, RDX etc were recovered from them.  From the markings on the recovered AK-47 rifles, it is learnt that the aforementioned terrorists belonged to the Pakistan based outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Intelligence inputs indicate that these terrorists had infiltrated into the Indian side using an underground tunnel discovered subsequently by the Border Security Force, India on 22nd November 2020 and that the terrorists had planned to use the huge quantity of weapons they were carrying to disrupt the process of democratic decentralisation initiated in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

It may be noted that the terrorists have targeted and killed 11 political leaders in the Kashmir valley since August 2019.  Pakistan based terrorists have also carried out a series of grenade attacks targeting civilians in the Kashmir valley in the recent past. Pakistan has blatantly allowed Jaish-e-Mohammed to continue to collect funds in the country on the pretext of allowing the outfit to achieve its project of constructing 313 Mosques in Pakistan however, these funds are being diverted for terror activities in  the Jammu & Kashmir, India.
