35th Know India Programme(KIP)

The Know India Programme (KIP) of the Government of India  is a three-week orientation programme for Indian Diaspora youth (of Indian Origin) conducted to promote awareness on different facets of life in India and the progress made by the country in various fields e.g. economic, industrial, education, Science & Technology, Communication & Information Technology, culture. KIP provides a unique forum for students & young professionals of Indian origin to visit India, share their views, expectations & experiences and to develop closer bonds with the present day India.

The Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi  is organizing the 35th edition of Know India Programme (KIP) for Indian-origin youth, to familiarize them with India’s culture, heritage and also contemporary India from 5th  May , 2016- 1st  June , 2016 . The Duration of the programme is for 25 days, out of which participants will spend nearly 10 days in Maharashtra. The highlight of this year’s KIP is a tour of specific places of interest in Maharashtra aboard the luxury train The Deccan Odyssey, thanks to the support of the state Government of Maharashtra. 

About 40 Indian Youth of Indian origin, in the age group of 18-26 years, who are either graduates or are studying for graduation, are selected for each programme from all over the world on recommendations of Heads of Indian Missions/Posts abroad. The selected participants are provided with full hospitality ( food, accommodation and expenses for local travel)  in India during the duration of the programme. Moreover, 90% (ninety percent) of the total cost of air ticket (at lowest economy excursion fare) is refundable to them on successful completion of the programme.

The content of the Programme broadly includes presentations on the country, Interactions at a prestigious University/College/Institute, visits to some Industrial sites, visit to a typical village, exposure to Indian media, interaction with NGOs and organizations dealing with women affairs, visit to places of historical importance/Monuments, taking part in Cultural programmes, exposure to yoga and interactions with high dignitaries.

Interested candidates are invited to send their applications, duly completed to this embassy at the earliest for the 35th KIP. The applicants should be able to converse in English and should have studied English as a subject at the High School level or should have had English as a medium of instruction for under-graduate course. All applicants for the programme may be asked to write an essay of 500 words on why they want to participate and what they expect to gain from the programme. A medical fitness certificate would have to furnished to this Embassy and every selected participant would have to arrange medical insurance before the gratis visa is granted to them.

Selected participants would be required to purchase an air ticket for their journey from Panama to India and back, as per schedule prescribed by the Ministry. The Embassy would reimburse 90% (ninety percent) of the total cost of air ticket (at lowest economy excursion fare) to participants on successful completion of the programme by them.
